Tonight is the the Full Buck Moon. This moon signals when male deer begin to grow their antlers in preparation of rutting season in the autumn. Rutting season is the mating season for ruminant animals such as deer, elk, moose and caribou. The rut is the time of year when male animals rub their antlers against trees, fight other males and herd fertile female animals into herds. The rut is signaled by the shortening daylight length.
