These tadpoles of Northern Green Frogs (Rana clamitans melanota) are so large I orginally thought they were the tadpoles of Bull Frogs. But I asked Bernard Brown of Phillyherping and he told me it was mostly likely Green Frogs, given the pond were the photo was taken.
They look like something out of a movie – “Green Frog Tadpoles, Attack!!!”
I have a hard time telling them apart as well.
I have since as an expert and he said the tadpoles were mostly Green Frogs. I was thrown off because the tadpoles are so large.
