My New Year’s Resolution for the Land.
I normally do not make New Year’s Resolutions. I kinda, sorta list things I would like to change but that is as far as it goes.
But, I was reading a friends blog post – Say It Rah-Say’s ” Not spending money in January”. I think this would be perfect for me not to buy one single book during the rest of January. Even if I see, a book on Amazon I desperately want to read I will save it in my cart and wait to February 1st.
Some of you make think it should be easy, but I am a librarian. I read book reviews constantly have to order bright, shiny, new books all the time. This will be hard.
I often think Americans (U.S. folks) are constantly bombarded with advertising to make us dissatisfied and malcontent-ed. Those of you who are in other countries have to be here in the U.S., to grasp just how hard it is to resist it. They (marketing executives) work on our minds. They use psychology. They get together in rooms and plot how to make us spend money.
Well, to help curb American over consumption, this American will be not buying a new book the rest of the month of January. Save a tree save some lives (all the organisms living on and in the tree).
If I survive this, I would like to make this a permanent thing – only buying book in even-numbered months.
Wish me luck!
