If you are indigenous to anywhere that Europeans, migrated/immigrated/invaded you know you are always told you are wrong about your own history. You are wrong that you had anything of value or intelligence. And that everything worth having somehow came from Europeans. Which brings us to the horse.
Elders have always told me there were horses here on Turtle Island before the Europeans came. And I always believed them. For some reason, Europeans wanted to believe they and only they, had the horse. That “using” the horse for transportation was an example of “higher-level” thinking”. Therefore, if you are not European, you are dumb about horses.
Yvette Running Horse Collins wrote her dissertation on the natural history of the horse in North America. And used fossil, DNA, carbon dating, and archaeological evidence to establish what North American natives have always known, horses are indigenous to this land.
